THE LOWDOWN
SYDNEY SIXERS
- After a disappointing opening to the defence to their Big Bash League title, Sydney Sixers sent a warning to the rest of the competition and demonstrated that they will not surrender their crown easily with a demolition job on Melbourne Renegades.
- Josh Philippe showed his class with a superb 95 from just 57 balls while Jordan Silk chipped in with a brutal 45* from 19 deliveries as the Sixers posted a daunting total of 205/4 but despite that effort, the bowling unit were not to be outdone.
- Ben Dwarshuis did most of the damage with figures of 4-13 but he was ably supported by Steve O’Keefe with 3-16 as the Sixers ripped through the Renegades’ batting line-up, skittling them for just 60 to complete a massive 145-run success.
ADELAIDE STRIKERS
- Adelaide Strikers were able to earn immediate redemption against Hobart Hurricanes as they bounced back from defeat in their opening BBL|10 clash by earning a solid victory in their second.
- The Strikers, inspired by Peter Siddle’s best-ever BBL figures of 5-16, were able to bowl the Hurricanes out for 146 and that proved to be nowhere near enough as Adelaide chased it down with relative ease.
- The Strikers did look in trouble early on as they were reduced to 9/2 but Alex Carey’s return to the side proved invaluable as he notched 55 and combined with Jake Weatherald’s 68*, that pair were able to do most of the damage in the five-wicket victory.
THE PREDICTION
Adelaide Strikers showed what they are capable of as their key men performed in their victory over Hobart Hurricanes last time out. Peter Siddle’s 5-fer as part of an incredible spell of bowling was backed-up by Alex Carey and Jake Weatherald each notching a half-century with the bat and they will all have an important role to play as they take on Sydney Sixers. The defending champions produced a stunning performance to annihilate Melbourne Renegades as they claimed their first win of the tournament and confidence will be high after such an impressive showing. With strike players throughout their line-up, the Sixers know they are a match for anybody and they should be able to build on their recent win by notching another success here.
