THE LOWDOWN
MELBOURNE STARS
- Melbourne Stars produced a brilliant performance when it mattered most as they put themselves right back into contention for a spot in the finals of BBL|10 with a superb display to demolish Adelaide Strikers.
- Despite ticking along at around seven an over for most of their innings, the Stars came to life in the final four overs as they improved from 112/2 to finish up on 179/2 which was largely thanks to Andre Fletcher’s superb knock of 89* from 49.
- The bowling unit then backed that up brilliantly as they skittled the Strikers for a meagre 68 and despite Adam Zampa shining with figures of 5-17, it was a great all-round performance which got the job done.
MELBOURNE RENEGADES
- Melbourne Renegades failed to build on their rare victory against Adelaide Strikers in their previous contest as they succumbed to Brisbane Heat last time out to leave them with just two wins from their ten matches so far.
- Beau Webster helped his side to 149/6 with an unbeaten half-century but with the top order failing to have any real impact, it left the Renegades short of where they would have liked to be at the change of innings.
- Some poor efforts in the field then cost them the chance to remove danger man Chris Lynn cheaply and he ultimately ended up making 50 before Joe Burns scored the remaining runs required to condemn the Renegades to yet another loss.
THE PREDICTION
Andre Fletcher finally showed his ability with the bat as he produced a stunning knock to help Melbourne Stars claim a valuable victory in their pursuit of a spot in the finals as home advantage proved to be crucial in their clash with Adelaide Strikers. The Stars were rampant as they amassed a big score but that only came thanks to some big hitting in the final four overs of their innings before their bowling unit ripped through the Strikers to claim just a second win in their last eight matches, although one of those eight ended in a without a result being possible. They now take on Melbourne rivals the Renegades who are enduring an awful time of things in BBL|10. They have only managed to win two matches so far and that has resulted in captain Aaron Finch calling out his teammates following their latest loss to Brisbane Heat. That may produce a response from his side and jolt them into action but with the Stars appearing to turn a corner with such a dominant win last time out, it is the home side that can make it back-to-back successes here.
