THE PREDICTION
Having both already been beaten by Afghanistan in Group B, this clash between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka is effectively a knockout match, with the winner advancing to the Super 4s and the loser being eliminated from the tournament. Sri Lanka really were poor in their only game played so far, having been bowled out for just 105 batting first, whilst their bowlers were hit for over ten runs per over by the Afghanistan batters. Bangladesh at least put up more of a fight and their bowlers showed promise defending a small total, although they must improve their potency in regards to wicket-taking. What could prove vital in this clash is the lower order of Bangladesh, who showed that they have the ability to drag the side up to a potentially defendable total even if they lose early wickets. That extra depth really helps the Tigers in a fixture like this, although you would expect a significant improvement from their top order. It can’t be ignored though just how poor Sri Lanka were last time out and it’s difficult to see how they can recover to the level that is required here with such a small turnaround between fixtures. Therefore, back Bangladesh to pick up the two points and keep their Asia Cup hopes alive.
