THE TEAM NEWS

BANGLADESH

  • Bangladesh head into their second ODI against Sri Lanka with a 1-0 lead in the three-match series following their 33-run win on Sunday
  • Following fine knocks from Tamim Iqbal, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah to push the Tigers up to 257/6, bowler Mehidy Hasan Miraz then took centre stage by taking 4/30 from his ten overs as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 224.
  • After an encouraging victory, the likelihood is that Bangladesh will name an unchanged starting line-up for this second ODI, although the temptation may be there to rotate the bowling attack.

SRI LANKA

  • Sri Lanka will have been disappointed with their batting performance in the first ODI, with only one batter passing 50 runs as Bangladesh took regular wickets on a bowler friendly pitch and strangled the tourists run chase.
  • One positive from the first ODI was the fight of all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, who blasted 74 runs from 60 balls to give his side a chance of chasing down the target despite coming in at number 8.
  • The temptation from a Sri Lanka perspective will no doubt be to make changes heading into the second ODI with the likes of Niroshan Dickwella in line for a potential recall back into the playing XI.

THE PREDICTION

With rain set to potentially disrupt this second ODI between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, the toss is likely to prove important here with the winning captain likely to bowl first in anticipation that the DLS method may come into play. Another spin-friendly track is set to benefit the bowlers again in Dhaka and Sri Lanka’s batters are expected to struggle once more against the spin-bowling tandem of Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan. When added to Bangladesh’s experience with the bat in these conditions through captain Tamim Iqbal at the top of the order alongside Shakib at three, then this should lead to another strong home Bangladesh performance and another victory over Sri Lanka, providing the weather doesn’t cause too much of a disruption.
