THE TEAM NEWS
AUSTRALIA
- After not playing for almost six months, Australia return to action against their neighbous New Zealand just being happy to be back out on the field and they will be keen to extend their winning run in this format to six matches against New Zealand.
- The hosts will be without Ellyse Perry who had surgery following the hamstring injury she suffered in the T20 World Cup but all their other key players available for this three-match T20 series.
- Meg Lanning will skipper the team once again and he will be able to count on Alyssa Healy to support here in the batting department while Sophie Molineux has impressed with the ball in warm-up matches.
NEW ZEALAND
- New Zealand come into this series knowing they have played second fiddle to their rivals for some time in this format of the game so it will take something special for them to halt their five-match losing streak in T20s.
- They are not helped by the absence of key spinners Leigh Kasperek and Anna Peterson so that significantly reduces their threat in the bowling attack and they will need others to step up here.
- There will be plenty of expectation on their key experienced members of the squad including captain Sophie Devine, Suzie Bates and Amy Satterthwaite as they hope to try and spring an upset in Brisbane.
THE PREDICTION
Australia have been dominant in recent matches against New Zealand in this format of the game and while both teams could be a little rusty after going so long without a match, that may favour the hosts even more so. The Aussies have seen Sophie Molineux shine in their warm-up games and she has to be favoured to lead the way in wicket-taking but while both teams have some key absentees, it is the visitors who will be impacted greater. Alyssa Healy and Meg Lanning will lead the way with the bat and whether they bat or bowl first, a comfortable win for the hosts is on the cards.
