THE PREDICTION

For the first time since April 2018, Australia and South Africa take to the field to compete in a Test match. The Proteas have won their last three Tests against Australia and perhaps even more interestingly, defeated the Aussies 1-2 in the last Test series between these two nations in Australia. However, this a significantly stronger Australian side than the one beaten on their own patch all the way back in 2016 and despite injury to captain Pat Cummins, the hosts are in good shape having thrashed West Indies 2-0 in preparation for this series.

South Africa contain a bowling attack capable of holding their own against a formidable batting line-up. On the flip-side though, the tourists’ batting looks significantly weaker in comparison and may well struggle in the face of quality Australian bowling at the Gabba. Key to Australia’s success though will be how their batters cope against the likes of Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje. The expectation is that they will do extremely well when considering how strong they looked vs the Windies. Therefore, back Australia to win the first Test.
