THE PREDICTION

Papua New Guinea got off to the worst possible start in Group C as they were comprehensively thrashed by Zimbabwe. After an expensive bowling performance saw them concede 321 runs from 50 overs, PNG were then bowled out in reply for just 93, a hugely damaging result from a net-run-rate perspective. When taking this into account, Afghanistan will no doubt enter this match full of confidence. It would be perfectly acceptable to consider the three-time quarter-finalists as dark horses for this year’s Under-19s World Cup when taking into account their recent history in the tournament, not to mention their record of continuously producing excellent young talent to suit the limited overs game. Therefore, Afghanistan’s all-round quality should see them pile on the misery for Papua New Guinea and secure a comfortable first win of the group stage.
