THE PREDICTION

Warwickshire have consistently proven themselves as one of the best batting units in the County Championship and did so again at Emirates Old Trafford in their draw against Lancashire, with Chris Benjamin scoring a century on debut and Sam Hain also reaching triple figures despite facing a quality Lancashire bowling attack including the likes of Saqib Mahmood and Matt Parkinson. Hampshire meanwhile, were less impressive with the bat as they slumped to 163 all out in their first innings against Yorkshire, although the final wicket partnership of Kyle Abbott and Brad Wheal along with night-watchman Mason Crane played a huge part in helping James Vince’s side hold Yorkshire to a draw, Crane facing 197 balls as he successfully took time out of the game with the White Rose firmly in the driving seat.

On what is normally a very good batting pitch at Edgbaston, Warwickshire could well be set to cash in with the willow and whilst their bowlers won’t find it easy, an early dismissal of Vince could see them make inroads into what looks to be a brittle batting unit for the loss of little runs. When taking into account their extra quality and strength-in-depth with the bat along with home advantage being in their favour, backing Warwickshire draw no bet looks the smart play.
