Connor Matthews: Contender grad looking for first UFC win

Connor Matthews (7-2) earned his shot in the UFC by beating Jair Farias in October 2023 but he suffered defeat on his UFC debut. he faced Dennis Buzukja at UFC on ESPN 54 in March but suffered a third-round TKO so he is looking to bounce back from what was the first knockout loss of his professional career.

Jose Delgado: Arizona native pumped for UFC debut

Jose Delgado (8-1) is another fighter that came through the Contender Series and he earned his shot with one of the most spectacular knockouts you will see. He timed the perfect knee to knockout Ernie Juarez in August to produce a stunning second-round knockout and get the valued UFC contract. He will now look to follow that up and get a win on his promotional debut.

Connor Matthews vs Jose Delgado Prediction

Jose Delgado comes into his fight as the heavy favourite with the bookmakers but one wonders whether his price is a little inflated due to the stunning way in which he won his last fight.

There is no question that he looks good and it will be an interesting test for him here but it is hard to love him at these odds.

Matthews is game but there are concerns around him after he suffered a first TKO loss on his UFC debut. Those are never easy to rebound from and this level is particularly tough.

It is a really tough assignment for Matthews and one would expect him to try grind this fight, make it boring while approaching it cautiously. That will play into Delgado’s hands who will be the more aggressive and active fighter.

Prediction: Jose Delgado to win
