Como Preview: Cesc’s Como
Cesc Fabregas became the official permanent coach at Como last summer and he has been heavily backed by an ambitious ownership group with several recognisable faces as they begin to kick on in the second-half of the game with several very impressive performances.
The hosts did, though, head into the March international break on the back of collecting just one point from their previous three matches, most recently suffering a 2-1 defeat to Milan at San Siro in a game in which they were ahead at half-time.
Empoli Preview: Empoli’s collapse
At the start of the season, former Lecce coach Roberto D’Aversa had done a very good job as they sat in the top-half of the Serie A table for much of the first-half of the campaign but they now begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the bottom three and the relegation places.
The Florence-based outfit have stuck by D’Aversa with the first-leg of their Coppa Italia semi-final coming up in midweek, having defeated Juventus on penalties in Turin in the quarter-finals. They were most recently beaten 1-0 in Turin by Torino a couple of weeks ago.
Como Team News: No Dele Alli
Upon his return to professional football a couple of weeks ago, former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli was sent off against Como due to a late challenge on Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Key man Nico Paz is also missing through suspension for this weekend.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Butez; Smolcic, Goldaniga, Kempf, Alex Valle; Da Cunha, Caqueret; Strefezza, Douvikas, Diao; Cutrone
Unavailable: Dossena (Injured), Alli (Suspended), Nico Paz (Suspended)
Questionable: Azon (Injured)
Empoli Team News: Several doubts
Empoli are dealing with several injury doubts as they travel to Como this weekend as the likes of Youssef Maleh, Szymon Zurkowski, former Chelsea man Tino Anjorin and Roma loanee Ola Solbakken are all key doubts for Empoli.
Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Silvestri; Marianucci, Ismajli, Cacace; Sambia, Grassi, Henderson, Pezzella; Esposito, Gyasi; Kouame
Unavailable: Sazonov (Injured), Haas (Injured), Pellegri (Injured)
Questionable: Viti (Injured), Maleh (Injured), Fazzini (Injured), Zurkowski (Injured), Anjorin (Injured), Solbakken (Injured)
Como vs Empoli Prediction
Como are playing an entertaining style of football at the moment with an impressive squad that has been also made very deep by their remarkable amount of business in both the summer and winter transfer windows. They face an Empoli side that are very poor at the moment and it appears they are simply putting their eggs in the cup biscuit so siding with Como, especially with their home advantage, looks the way to go for this one.
