Colby Thicknesse (7-0) has finally been given a golden opportunity to fight in his native Australia and he makes his debut in the UFC. A training partner of Alex Volkanovski, Thicknesse gets his shot after Cody Haddon was forced off the card and out of the fight with Topuria. He may only have had just over a week’s notice, but Thicknesse will be fired up to take his chance on home soil and he will have plenty of home support behind him.

Aleksandre Topuria (5-1) gets the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of his champion brother as the Georgian gets a shot in the UFC. The 29-year-old has had six pro MMA fights and has won his last three via first-round knockout. He now gets the call to the big time and there is plenty of intrigue around how good the older brother actually is.

There is as much intrigue around this fight as any other on this superb UFC 312 card at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia.
Both fighters are making their debuts in the UFC and both come into this with a fair degree of hype given their respective backgrounds.
The odds are against Thicknesse given the fact he has had little time to prepare given the short notice but all the pressure is on Topuria who has plenty of expectation on him given how good his brother is.
It is hard to see past Topuria for this one but approach this fight with caution.
