Coco Gauff vs Maria Sakkari Prediction

Coco Gauff has had one or two critics of late but she answered those in emphatic fashion by recording a ‘double-bagel’ victory over compatriot Sofia Kenin in the second round, with her 6-0, 6-0 victory over the former Australian Open champion lasting just 47 minutes.

That will send an ominous message to the rest of the field, with the third seed looking to go deep in a tournament she has historically struggled to make an impact in.

28th seed Maria Sakkari was put through her paces by Lucia Bronzetti in the second round, with the Greek taking it 6-4 in the third, and she now faces Gauff for the second tournament in a row after a 7-6 (7-1), 6-2 defeat to the American in the third round of the Indian Wells Open.

Sakkari did enjoy some success against Gauff early on in the latter’s career, with the 29-year-old winning four of the first five meetings between the two, but Gauff has turned the tables more recently with three victories in their last four contests, all on hard courts.

Gauff is the clear favourite and this could be more one-sided than their previous meetings.
