Coco Gauff was given a stern test by 2020 champion Sofia Kenin in the first round but the third seed overcame some serving issues to defeat her compatriot 6-3, 6-3. That win extended Gauff’s winning streak in Singles to ten matches, and that test will stand her in good stead ahead of this second-round meeting with Great Britain’s Jodie Burrage.

World number 173 Burrage claimed victory in the main draw of a Grand Slam for the third time in her career – and a first at the Australian Open – with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Leolia Jeanjean in the first round.

That win wasn’t wholly surprising, as Burrage had enjoyed some excellent results on the ITF circuit in late 2024, and also reached the last 16 of the ASB Classic a couple of weeks ago.

The Brit will have nothing to lose here, but Gauff is in ominous form and should prove too strong. Consider backing the American to overcome a significant deficit.
