Clay Guida: 42-year-old vet returns for 63rd pro MMA fight

Clay Guida ((38-24) returns to the Octagon after a year out of action and it would be no surprise if this is his final fight. He competes for the love of fighting but after six defeats in his last nine and back-to-back losses coming into this one, it would be no surprise to see him hang up his gloves. While he will have benefited from some time out of action to rest and recharge, it is hard to imagine he will improve at the age of 42. He will relish the challenge, but it is a tough one at that.

Chase Hooper: No sentiment from 25-year-old here

Chase Hooper (14-3-1) has won his last three fights in the UFC and rising 25-year-old is looking strong in the lightweight division. His submission win over Viacheslav Borshchev in May took his record to 14-3-1 and made it three wins in a row so he will be keen to keep this momentum going as he faces an incredibly experienced foe who he clearly respects. The black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu will show no sentiment however when the doors close and the fight begins.

Clay Guida vs Chase Hooper Prediction

Clay Guida returns to the Octagon to meet a fighter 17 years his junior and it really would be some feat if he could beat Chase Hooper here.

They actually met in a grappling competition just two years ago and it was Hooper who won that via submission. The 25-year-old will be confident he can stop the veteran once again albeit under different rules.

Despite a year out of action, we can surely expect to see the usual bouncing energetic Guida come into the Octagon here. It is hard to see him coming away with the win however.

Hooper is talented enough to get the win and Guida has lost to worse fighters than Hooper in recent years.

One can fully see Guida gritting it out to the final bell but Hooper should get the win on the scorecards.

Prediction: Chase Hooper to win by decision or submission
