Christopher Eubanks vs Brandon Nakashima prediction
Brandon Nakashima snapped his winless record against Mackenzie McDonald to race into the last eight in Houston for the second year in a row.
The number four seed took just one hour and 18 minutes to get his maiden victory against his fellow American at the fifth time of asking courtesy of a 6-1 7-5 triumph.
Nakashima won 81% of first serve points and did not offer up a break point as he took down McDonald’s serve on three occasions.
The 23-year-old will lock horns with another compatriot in the last eight after Christopher Eubanks progressed following the retirement of former finalist Kei Nishikori.
The Japanese never looked comfortable from the get-go and after losing the first set 6-1 offered his handshake at the net.
Eubanks, 28, had lost seven of his previous eight matches prior to claiming back-to-back wins in Houston, but has admitted he’s never felt so comfortable on the clay.
Nakashima leads the tour-level head-to-head 2-1 and won the last two of their matches in 2024 in straight sets.
This will be their first encounter on the dirt, but we expect the fourth seed to be too strong given the quality of his performance against McDonald as well as his more consistent year so far.
Christopher Eubanks vs Brandon Nakashima tip: Brandon Nakashima to win 2-0
