Chris Gutierrez vs John Castaneda prediction

Chris Gutierrez (21-6) is coming off a solid unanimous decision win over Quang Le last time out in August and he will be hoping to win back-to-back fights for the first time since 2022. He now meets John Castaneda in a fight that was scheduled to take place early March at UFC 313 but illness forced the bout off the card late on. Gutierrez will be eager to get back in the Octagon and build on his win last time out.

John Castaneda (21-7) has had a disrupted time of it as he has seen a couple of bouts be cancelled for one reason or another but he too will be raring to go. He lost a decision to Daniel Marcos last June after winning his two previous bouts and he will be keen to bounce back here.

The duo have had very similar careers paths building up impressive resumes outside of the UFC and then coming in and reaching a similar level.

It is fair to say that neither have shown the quality to trouble elite fighters but both are incredibly solid pros who can be proud of the careers they have put together. That makes this fight a tough one to call and the odds support that with both fighters even in the betting.

Both fighters are incredibly durable with solid chins and it is hard to see anything other than this fight going to the scorecards.

We have a marginal preference for Gutierrez in this one. He has fought some quality opponents in recent bouts like Song Yadong and Pedro Munhoz and while he has lost both, he stuck in there and took both to a decision. He gets our vote but it really is a pick’em fight.

Prediction: Fight to go the distance
