Chris Dobey remains some way off the playoff places but there are still plenty of points to play for in the 2025 Premier League, and the world number nine will have gained confidence from having defeated Luke Littler at the quarter-final stage in Berlin last week.

Indeed, Dobey delivered some decent averages in the two Players Championship events this week, reaching the last 16 on Tuesday before a first-round exit on Wednesday despite a 104 average.

A freak neck incident prevented Michael van Gerwen's participation in the Premier League last week, and he subsequently missed the International Darts Open over the weekend for the same reason.

The Dutchman, who remains in the top four despite his absence in Berlin, returned to action in the Players Championship events but first-round exits on both days and some under-par averages raise some questions around his current physical condition.

With these factors in mind, we'd consider going against the bookies here and siding with the underdog given that MVG is unlikely to find his top gear.
