Might Michael van Gerwen continues his bid for a fourth world title but standing in his way is a man who produces his best darts at the PDC World Darts Championship.

Chris Dobey vs Michael van Gerwen Prediction

After reaching the quarter-finals in both the 2023 and 2024 PDC World Darts Championships, Chris Dobey has now reached his first Alexandra Palace semi-final after seeing off former world champion Gerwyn Price in the last eight on New Year’s Day.

The world number 15 was a 5-3 winner against the Welshman, although it could have been more straightforward had he not squandered several match darts to allow Price back into the game, which would have brought back memories of last year’s quarter-final where he was 4-0 up against Rob Cross, only to lose 5-4. Ultimately though, the Bedlington thrower held his nerve in the eighth set to book this meeting with three-time champion Michael van Gerwen.

Van Gerwen has steadily improved his level with each round, and had to be at the top of his game to defeat an inspired Callan Rydz in the quarter-finals. The Dutchman averaged 103.10 in his 5-3 victory, with Rydz averaging 103.88 himself, to reach a ninth semi-final in darts’ showpiece event.

Van Gerwen has shown some real class in this tournament and will be determined to remind everyone of his ability, especially given the fact that all the talk has been about the two Lukes over the past year. He can take a major step towards that with victory here, and if he produces the level he displayed on New Year’s Day, then Dobey will struggle to hold on to him.

Chris Dobey vs Michael van Gerwen Tip: Michael van Gerwen to win with -1.5 sets handicap
