Chris Dobey vs Josh Rock Prediction

Chris Dobey returns to action after the short break and he will be aiming to pick up where he left off beforehand. He eased past a valiant Alexandr Merkx 3-1 in the second round and he averaged a solid 95.62 to overcome the Frenchman.

He has reached the quarter-finals in each of the last two World Championships and he will be confident of doing that once again.

He will however need to overcome Josh Rock, the 18th seed this year. The talented 23-year-old has had a good year but his performances in the televised events has been below-par so that is certainly something he will be looking to remedy.

His performance in his opening match was reasonable and sufficient to get the 3-0 win over Rhys Griffin but he will have to notably improve here to have any chance of beating Dobey. He started incredibly slow in that match averaging in the 70s in the first set and 80s in the second. He won both sets given Griffin’s struggles but he will find himself down against Dobey pretty quickly here.

We cannot see past Dobey here in this one. Rock has the ability but there are too many question marks over him heading into this one. Being the underdog may actually help him in this one but Dobey is class and he will punish any nerves and mistakes ruthlessly. There is value on Dobey here and he is our pick.
