In some ways you can argue that both Chris Dobey and Gerwyn Price were somewhat controversial selections for the Premier League this year; Dobey as he was one of the players chosen ahead of World Grand Prix champion Mike De Decker, and Price because the Welshman endured a difficult 2024 and even stated at one point that he would snub an invitation.

That being said, both have proven over the last month or so that they belong at the top table. Dobey reached the semi-finals at the World Championship – incidentally beating Price on his way to the last four – while Price has produced some eye-catching displays at the start of the year, memorably averaging 115.31 in a defeat of Luke Littler on his way to the Bahrain Darts Masters final.

Dobey, who is featuring in the Premier League for the second time, has not fared as well since Ally Pally though, winning just one match in the three events he has participated in. With that in mind, we’re backing Price to open the 2025 Premier League with a win.
