Chelsea Preview: Pressure on Maresca
Despite appearing to have been coherent and clear with their plan both on and off the pitch in the first-half of the season, things have once again quickly changed at Stamford Bridge and supporters are beginning to air dissatisfaction with Enzo Maresca in the dugout.
Since late-December, Chelsea have managed just seven victories in 17 matches across all competitions. Two of those seven wins have been against Copenhagen with the other five against Morecambe, Leicester City, Wolves, West Ham United and Southampton.
Tottenham Preview: Pressure on Postecoglou
Tottenham Hotspur’s season revolves around how deep they can go in the UEFA Europa League because the two seasons domestically of Ange Postecoglou’s reign would have to be viewed as a failure but if they can win a trophy then the former Celtic boss may stay beyond this season.
Spurs appeared to have turned a corner before the March international break, coming from behind to edge past AZ Alkmaar in the UEFA Europa League, but they have collected just one point from their last three matches in the Premier League.
Chelsea Team News: Key players returning
After missing out on international duty for their respective countries over the March international break, England international duo Cole Palmer and Noni Madueke have returned to training this week for Chelsea alongside Senegal international striker Nicolas Jackson.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Jorgensen; James, Adarabioyo, Colwill, Cucurella; Fernandez, Caicedo; Neto, Palmer, Sancho; Nkunku
Unavailable: Kellyman (Injured), Mudryk (Disciplinary)
Questionable: Palmer (Fitness), Madueke (Fitness), Jackson (Fitness), Guiu (Injured)
Tottenham Team News: Several doubts
In a training video released by the club last week, neither Kevin Danso nor Dejan Kulusevski were spotted so they remain doubts for this week, whilst Radu Dragusin is sidelined until the end of the season. Richarlison was spotted but remains a doubt, whilst Lucas Bergvall is recovering from illness.
Predicted XI (4-3-3): Vicario; Spence, Romero, Davies, Udogie; Bentancur, Gray, Bissouma; Johnson, Solanke, Son
Unavailable: Dragusin (Injured)
Questionable: Danso (Injured), Bergvall (Illness), Kulusevski (Injured), Richarlison (Fitness)
Chelsea vs Tottenham Prediction
Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea have only been able to defeat Premier League strugglers, League Two strugglers or FC Copenhagen in the last three and a bit months. They do now face another Premier League struggler, albeit in a different guise, as Tottenham Hotspur travel across the capital. Both sides intend to play an attacking style of football but both sides are generally haphazard and both teams scoring in what could be quite an entertaining clash for the neutral seems likely, regardless of whichever team, if either, can get three points in spite of themselves.
