Charles Oliveira: 46-fight veteran looks to further legacy with another finish

Charles Oliveira (34-10 with one no contest) he's coming off a split decision loss at the hands of Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 300 in April, in what was a UFC lightweight title eliminator. The Brazilian has been fighting at such a high level for an incredibly long time and he will look to get back to winning ways and remain in the title picture. Oliveira has beaten Chandler once before and that came at UFC 262 in May 2021 when he got the TKO win in the second round. He's a little older and wiser since that fight but it will give him the confidence and belief that he can replicate that win here.

Michael Chandler: Fight of the Night specialist looking to put on a show

The last time Michael Chandler (23-8) thought Charles Oliveira there was the UFC lightweight championship title on the line. Since then, Chandler's focus has been on putting on entertaining fights rather than fighting for the title once again and his popularity has only increased because of that. He has been involved in two Fight of the Night matches and produced two Performance of the Night displays in his last five fights, despite losing three of his last four. He will be fired up to put on a show once again in New York City, but he will still be desperate to avenge his previous loss to Oliveira.

There are many people that are looking forward to this fight more than the main event at UFC 309 and Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler could well upstage Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic.

Michael Chandler does not do boring fights the style of the two fighters here makes for a classic bout. The previous match at UFC 262 was highly entertaining for the five minutes and 19 seconds that it lasted. It is hard to imagine even a lull in this fight.

Chandler’s style is great to watch but somewhat reckless and that does not bode well for his chances against such an impressive technician like Oliveira. His best chance is to knock the Brazilian out and we could not rule out that possibility.

However, while he may enjoy some early success we have to lean towards the more technical Oliveira enjoying more success and ultimately getting the stoppage.
