Celtic Preview: Buoyant Bhoys

Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic had a kind run of fixtures in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League but the Scottish champions did take advantage of that with a 1-0 victory against a poor Young Boys side at Celtic Park last weekend earning themselves a top 24 spot.

They come into this one on the back of a 5-0 thrashing of Raith Rovers in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup at the weekend. The home team have suffered just three defeats in their 38 matches across all competitions so far this season.

Bayern Munich Preview: Re-establishing domestic dominance

Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich defeated Werder Bremen by three goals to nil at the Allianz Arena at the weekend thanks to a brace of penalties from Harry Kane as well as a strike by Leroy Sane to extend their lead at the top-of-the-table to eight points in the Bundesliga.

In the UEFA Champions League, the Bavarians have found things a little tougher and they showed that by suffering a 3-0 loss to Feyenoord at De Kuip last month. That was their third defeat in the competition after previous losses to Barcelona and Aston Villa.

Celtic Team News: Maeda suspension

Ghana international Jeff Schlupp joined Celtic on loan from Crystal Palace on the final day of the winter transfer window last week. However, Japan international attacker Daizen Maeda is missing through suspension after a red card against Young Boys last month.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Schmeichel; Johnston, Trusty, Scales, Taylor; Engels, McGregor, Hatate; Kuhn, Idah, Jota

Unavailable: Forrest (Injured), Maeda (Suspended)

Questionable:

Bayern Munich Team News: Davies out

Key left-back Alphonso Davies is unavailable for Bayern Munich this weekend as he deals with a strain, whilst Japan international centre-back Hiroki Ito is also unavailable due to a foot injury. Dan Peretz is also a doubt for Bayern.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Neuer; Laimer, Upamecano, Kim, Guerreiro; Kimmich, Goretzka; Olise, Musiala, Coman; Kane

Unavailable: Ito (Injured), Davies (Injured)

Questionable: Peretz (Illness)

Celtic vs Bayern Munich Prediction

Celtic Park is expected to be loud and hostile this week. Bayern Munich, in what is becoming a pattern during Vincent Kompany’s managerial tenure, have been excellent in swiping lower level sides away from them but they have been vulnerable in hostile crowds or against better sides. Celtic will fancy their chances of ‘getting about’ an often fragile Bayern defence but with their abundance of quality, Bayern should still come out on top in this one.
