Carlos Alcaraz overcame compatriot Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 7-6 6-4 in a tight match to book his place in the final of the Monte-Carlo Masters for the first time. The quality between the pair was sketchy in the first set, but the level improved as the game wore on, with Alcaraz just edging past. The four-time Grand Slam champion has not been near his best at the event but has managed to battle his way through the field and make the final. Quite remarkably, he’s without a Masters title since Indian Wells in 2024.
He will face Lorenzo Musetti, who took down Alex de Minaur in a wonderful semi-final. The Italian held his nerve and overcame a poor start to win 1-6 6-4 7-6. The Italian can reach the top 10 in the world for the first time with victory in the final.
Alcaraz leads the head-to-head 3-1, winning the last three matches, though it’s 1-1 on clay. Musetti is smart tactically and moves around the clay beautifully, but Alcaraz has always found a way to win this week despite not being at his optimum level, and we think that might just happen once again.
