Carlos Alcaraz vs Laslo Djere prediction
Carlos Alcaraz was not at his best and had to work hard for victory but did make it through his first-round match against Ethan Quinn. The Spaniard raced through the first set but had to dig deep in the second, coming from 3-1 down and even saving a set point to eventually take it 8-6 on the tiebreak and advance.
Alcaraz spoke of how nervous he was after the match, but he has made a perfect start to his clay court season and is the hot favourite to pick up a third Barcelona Open title at the end of the week. Laslo Djere, the winner of the Chile Open two months ago, will be his next opponent.
Djere has struggled with form and fitness since his great win but got through the qualifying at the weekend before a three-set win against Arthur Rinderknech. The Serbian won 6-7 6-1 6-2 and can look forward to testing himself against the four-time Grand Slam champion.
They have met once before at the Argentina Open in 2023, with Alcaraz needing three sets to defeat Djere on clay. We think the Spaniard will be tested at times, but we fully expect him to come through.
