Carlos Alcaraz vs Andrea Vavassori Prediction

Top seed Carlos Alcaraz did not have it all his own way against Botic van de Zandschulp in the first round and it took three sets for the Spaniard to get past the valiant Dutchman. After edging the first set tiebreak, Alcaraz lost the second set 3-6 before closing out the decider 6-1.

He now faces Italian doubles specialist Andrea Vavassori who is enjoying an excellent week so far. The 29-year-old came through qualifying at the weekend and then pulled off a win over Felix Auger-Aliassime albeit with the Canadian being forced to retire with the match level at one set each.

Vavassori competed really well in that match and he will take plenty of heart from his display. This one however will be a completely different challenge. Alcaraz is not firing on all cylinders right now but he should simply have far too much for Vavassori. We expect a straight-sets win for Alcaraz and a comfortable one at that.
