Cameron Menzies vs Leonard Gates Prediction

Cameron Menzies comes into the World Championships for a third year in a row and he will be hoping to maintain his record of having progressed through the first round on each visit to Alexandra Palace so far.

At the age of 35, Menzies has probably had the best year of his career with a standout performance coming in the Grand Slam of Darts where he reached the quarter-finals. He will hope to reach the second round as a minimum as he meets American Leonard Gates on day two.

Gates is a highly-entertaining 54-year-old from Houston, Texas and he will relish being on the main stage in front of the passionate crowd at Ally Pally. He won his first round match back in 2023 before losing to Stephen Bunting in the second but he enjoyed his taste of it and will be hoping to pull off a shock win here.

That will not be easy against Menzies who is playing pretty well and we have to favour the Scotsman to get the win. It may not be straight forward however so do not rule out this one going the distance.
