Cagliari Preview: Cagliari frustrations
Last season, Cagliari narrowly avoided relegation with Claudio Ranieri retiring but he has since come out of retirement to take charge of Roma. The Sardinians have appointed Serie A’s so-called ‘miracle worker’ Davide Nicola over the summer and it is unknown as to how he will fare over a season without needing to firefight at the end of a campaign.
Supporters protested their poor early season form but they had improved a touch before another drift before the November international break. They shared a 2-2 draw with Genoa in Patrick Vieira’s opening game at the weekend and the hosts are now winless in their last five matches.
Hellas Verona Preview: Verona viciously beaten
Due to Hellas Verona’s owners having their assets seized by the Italian financial police at the start of this year, they had to sell several members of their first-team squad but still somehow managed to avoid the drop thanks to their own miracle worker Marco Baroni, who departed the club over the summer to join Lazio.
Baroni was replaced by former Empoli boss Paolo Zanetti and they have started the season with inconsistency. In their opening 13 matches of this campaign, Verona have earned four victories with nine defeats and come into this one on the back of a 5-0 loss at home to defending champions Internazionale at the Marcantonio Bentegodi.
Cagliari Team News: Fully fit
Cagliari head into this weekend’s clash with Hellas Verona with a fully fit and available squad that has no fresh injury concerns or suspension issues.
That means Davide Nicola will be able to select an unchanged eleven for this clash at the Sardegna Arena with Antoine Makoumbou back from suspension.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Sherri; Zappa, Yerry Mina, Luperto, Augello; Makoumbou, Marin; Zortea, Gaetano, Luvumbo; Piccoli

Hellas Verona Team News: Injury issues
With what is already a depleted Verona squad, the visitors also have a couple of long lasting injury concerns to deal with at opposite ends of the pitch.
Summer signing Martin Frese remains sidelined due to knee surgery, whilst former Norwich City midfielder and Slovakia international Ondrej Duda has a thigh injury.
Predicted XI (3-5-2): Montipo; Daniliuc, Magnani, Dawidowicz; Tchatchoua, Serdar, Belahyane, Harroui, Bradaric; Tengstedt, Daniel Mosquera
Unavailable: Frese (Injured), Juan Manuel Cruz (Injured), Duda (Injured)

Cagliari vs Hellas Verona Prediction
In their 13 Serie A matches so far this season, Cagliari have scored just 14 goals. They have begun to become a little more entertaining, though, with their last three matches consisting of 13 goals. They will also be expected to take the game to their opposition with their home advantage. Hellas Verona have comfortably the worst defensive record in the league with 32 goals but have shown an ability to get victories so far this season. Given that, both teams scoring could well be a good bet for this one in Sardinia.
