The Prediction

Brisbane have started their premiership defence in cracking form, winning their first two matches against Sydney and West Coast. The Lions look every bit the team to beat again this year. but they might face a bit of a challenge with the weather gods threatening to unleash a downpour, with 70mm of rain forecast for match day. That could turn this into a proper slugfest.

Geelong, on the other hand, are looking to bounce back after copping a shock loss to St. Kilda in Round 2. At the time of writing, the Cats are perched in seventh spot with a 1-1 record.

Keep an eye out for Brisbane's Dayne Zorko, who's been in excellent form as a distributor off half-back, racking up 26 disposals a game in the first two rounds. For Geelong, Mark Blicavs' versatility could be crucial, especially given how he's been dominating in the ruck and midfield so far this season.

These two sides have a habit of serving up nail-biters, with five of their last six matches being decided by 11 points or less. Geelong have had the edge over Brisbane recently, winning six of their last nine clashes dating back to 2019.

Given Brisbane's strong start to the season, we see them as slight favourites, but Geelong's record at the Gabba (winning nine of their last 13 matches there) and the potential for a wet and wild affair could level the playing field. Expect a closely fought contest with Brisbane just pipping Geelong.
