Brisbane Heat Preview: Win over Sixers secured dramatic second-placed finish

Brisbane Heat took full advantage of the Thunder being beaten by Melbourne Renegades in their one remaining league stage game. Facing Sydney Sixers in the final match of the league stage, Brisbane were excellent as captain Jess Jonassen stepped up and guiding her side home chasing 141 with three overs to spare, scoring an unbeaten 39. That victory saw them overtake the Thunder and avoid the knockout match.

Sydney Thunder preview: Strong response after league stage frustration

Sydney Thunder would’ve been frustrated just to be competing in the knockout match but they channelled their frustration into a hugely impressive showing under the most intense pressure. A tight bowling performance saw the Thunder restrict Hobart Hurricanes to 126/6, which was chased down with an over left, Phoebe Litchfield top-scoring with 46.

Brisbane Heat Betting Analysis

Nothing would give Brisbane’s chances of winning here a bigger boost than Grace Harris getting them off to a fast start at the top of the order. One of the biggest hitters in the women’s game, Harris has cleared the boundary rope eight times across the tournament so far, a number bettered by just two other players and batting in the powerful should afford the opener more freedom to play aggressively. Therefore, back Harris to record over 0.5 match sixes.

Sydney Thunder Betting Analysis

After starring in the knockout match, Phoebe Litchfield once again proved her importance to Sydney Thunder, with only three players having scored more runs than her over the course of this year’s WBBL. Litchfield has racked up 327 runs across 11 innings at an average of 29.72 and utilising the ‘Batter Milestones’ market here looks a shrewd move to make for bettors, specifically backing Litchfield to accrue 20+ runs.

Brisbane Heat vs Sydney Thunder Expert Prediction

This challenger will see Brisbane Heat afforded home advantage, but Sydney Thunder with momentum on their side after that win over Hobart. The last time these two sides clashed, the Thunder were victorious by 19 runs, but on this occasion will be without England captain Heather Knight, whose 59 not out went a long way towards them winning that game. As was the case in the knockout match, playing at home can really help one side, especially with the short turnaround between knockout games, so back Brisbane Heat to win out in what could be a thriller.
