Brest Preview: The fairytale of Brest

Last season, with one of the smallest budgets in Ligue 1, former Sunderland player managed to lead Stade Brest to a third place finish in the top-flight and qualification for the UEFA Champions League but their season did begin to fall away in February and March.

That is because of knockout playoff round elimination from the UEFA Champions League as well as a Coupe de France quarter-final defeat to second-tier Dunkerque but they remain tucked inside the top-half of Ligue 1 ahead of this weekend’s match day.

Monaco Preview: Much-needed win for Monaco

Former Borussia Monchengladbach boss Adi Hutter has implemented an entertaining and aggressive, intense style of football down in the principality of Monaco and they do begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting second in Ligue 1, 21 points behind Paris Saint-Germain.

The Monegasque denied PSG the chance to wrap up the title as early as March last weekend as they managed to defeat Nice in the Derby de la Cote d’Azur last weekend by two goals to one at Stade Louis II thanks to goals from Mika Biereth and Breel Embolo.

Brest Team News: Defensive issues

Brest are dealing with a few issues defensively as defenders Brendan Chardonnet and Soumaila Coulibaly are out injured alongside left-backs Bradley Locko and Jordan Amavi, whilst another left-back, Massadio Haidara is suspended alongside Hugo Magnetti.

Monaco Team News: A few injuries

Both Denis Zakaria and Folarin Balogun have returned from injury for this weekend but the visitors do have a few injury issues remaining such as defensive duo Jordan Teze and Kassoum Ouattara as well as defensive midfielder Soungoutou Magassa.

Brest vs Monaco Prediction

Since their aforementioned exits from both Europe and in the cup, Brest have enjoyed an improved run of form in the league as they once again punch above their weight and search for yet another unlikely European competition qualification. They face a strong Monaco side that, much like Brest, have the tendency to create chaos at both ends of the pitch so both teams scoring would appear a good bet for this one.
