Brentford Preview: Bees in mid-table

Thomas Frank’s Brentford begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting firmly in the middle-of-the-table with 12 victories, five draws and 13 defeats. That very even record has been entertaining, though, with their 30 games producing 98 goals.

The Bees come into this one on the back of an unfortunate 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United at St James’ Park in midweek in a game in which Alexander Isak opened the scoring, Bryan Mbeumo equalised from the penalty spot and then a Sandro Tonali cross snatched all three points.

Chelsea Preview: Blues challenging for Europe

Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea have been underwhelming in the league since mid-December when it appeared like they may be able to be involved in the title race. The Blues have managed to pick up three victories in their last four matches in the league.

The visitors most recently edged past capital city rivals Tottenham Hotspur by a goal to nil at Stamford Bridge in midweek with Enzo Fernandez opening the scoring in first-half. They are now preparing for a UEFA Europa Conference League quarter-final in midweek.

Brentford Team News: Fitness issues

Thomas Frank has confirmed that there is a 'good chance' that left-back Rico Henry will be back in the Brentford squad this weekend. They are not yet ready to welcome back either Aaron Hickey or Gustavo Nunes, whilst Mathias Jensen has returned to training and could himself also be involved.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Flekken; Van den Berg, Collins, Pinnock, Lewis-Potter; Norgaard, Jensen; Mbeumo, Damsgaard, Schade; Wissa

Unavailable: Hickey (Fitness), Dailvsa (Injured), Carvalho (Injured), Nunes (Fitness), Thiago (Injured)

Questionable: Henry (Fitness), Jensen (Fitness)

Chelsea Team News: Couple of injuries

Enzo Maresca has been dealt some blows ahead of this west London derby. Belgium international defensive midfielder Romeo Lavia is unavailable due to a new injury alongside former Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana. Both Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson returned to the Blues' eleven the other day.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Sanchez; James, Adarabioyo, Badiashile, Cucurella; Fernandez, Caicedo; Neto, Palmer, Sancho; Jackson

Unavailable: Fofana (Injured), Lavia (Injured), Mudryk (Disciplinary), Kellyman (Injured)

Questionable:

Brentford vs Chelsea Prediction

Brentford will fancy their chances of finishing the season with a flourish as they sit firmly in the middle-of-the-table and having very little pressure on. They face a Chelsea side that have been underwhelming for a while with that victory against Tottenham joining a list of Copenhagen, Wolverhampton Wanderers, West Ham United, Leicester City, Morecambe and Southampton as teams they have beaten since mid-December. It could well be a good bet to side with the Bees for this one.

Brentford vs Chelsea Tip: Double chance – Brentford to win or draw
