Brandon Nakashima will take on a confident Flavio Cobolli in the third round in Madrid.

The Italian was 6-2 up on Barcelona champion Holger Rune when the Dane retired with a leg injury, but the 22-year-old was always the dominant player as he followed up an opening round success over Fabian Marozsan in style. 

Nakashima edged Sebastian Ofner 6-3 7-6 to earn his maiden success in Madrid last time out and will expect an equally tight clash with a player ranked just four places below him in the rankings. 

Cobolli will fancy his chances on this surface and did reach the third round here last year. It’s a tight call with a decider very much in the offing but don’t be surprised if the unseeded players comes good in the key moments.
