BRANDON MORENO: MEXICAN STAR REFUSING TO SURRENDER TITLE SHOT CONTENTION
There are very few fighters that have been in the situation that Brandon Moreno (21-8-2) finds himself in right now having lost two split decisions over five rounds to the two men above him in the flyweight division. Moreno lost to both Alexandre Pantoja and Brandon Royval in his last two fights and there was very little separating the fighters in those bouts. He now faces Albazi as he desperately tries to remain in contention for another title shot soon.
AMIR ALBAZI: IRAQI STAR ON A TEAR TOWARDS TITLE SHOT
Iraq’s Amir Albazi (17-1) is on a tear right now having won his last six fights and he has shown no sign of letting up since he entered the UFC. He has won all five fights in the UFC and he comes off a split decision win over Kai Kara-France in June 2023 which was his last bout in the Octagon. Since then, he has had a variet y of injuries have seen him ruled out of action but he finally gets to meet Moreno in a bout that was originally scheduled for February.
BRANDON MORENO VS AMIR ALBAZI PREDICTION
This main event promises to live up to expectations as Brandon Moreno meets Amir Albazi and it could very well be as close as what the bookmakers expect.
Moreno is coming off two defeats and while they were the right decisions, they were close fights against the top two fighters in the division.
Albazi comes off a split decision win over Kai Kara-France which was somewhat controversial as most media outlets scored it the other way. Moreno stopped Kara-France back in July 2022.
Moreno has been fighting at such a high level for a long amount of time. There may be a question over how much he has left in the tank but the 30-year-old Mexican should have plenty left.
Albazi has an unbelievable record but the quality on his resume is nowhere near that of Moreno’s. The best name on his CV is that of Kara-France and that decision was somewhat fortuitous.
Our preference here is for the tried and trusted Moreno. He is a warrior and he is not going to go away from the title scene quietly. We favour him to grind out the win and it could very well go all the way.
