Former WBO champion Joseph Parker (27-2, 21KO) is returning to competitive action for the first time since he stopped American fighter Shawndell Winters in the fifth round of their contest on 29 February, 2020. That was the New Zealander’s third win in a row following his back-to-back defeats against Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte in 2018.
Parker’s fellow countryman Junior Fa (19-0, 10KO) has been out of the ring a little while longer than his opponent, as his last bout was in November 2019 when he claimed a win on points against Devin Vargas. The aforementioned victory extended Fa’s unbeaten record in the professional ranks but it has to be said that he has not faced anyone of Parker’s calibre since he left the amateurs.
THE PREDICTION
There is some added spice to this contest between New Zealand’s Joseph Parker and Junior Fa as they grew up in the same area and went head-to-head against each other on four occasions when they were amateurs - both boxers claimed two wins apiece from those four meetings which brings some extra intrigue to this bout. Parker has the obvious edge in terms of experience and pedigree in the professional ranks though and it will be considered a big upset if loses to Fa on this occasion. The former WBO heavyweight champion is tipped to overcome his fellow Kiwi by a majority decision on the judges’ scorecards.
