Botic van de Zandschulp vs Alex de Minaur Prediction

Botic van de Zandschulp returns to the Australian Open hoping to spring a major upset as he faces local hero Alex de Minaur in the Rod Laver Arena.

The Dutchman participated in Auckland last week in the ASB Classic to warm up but he was eliminated in qualifying by the talented youngster Nishesh Basavareddy.

He now takes on De Minaur as a major underdog and it will not be easy against the Aussie star who has reached the fourth round in each of the last three editions of the tournament. Ironically, that finish last year was his worst in the four Grand Slam events as he reached the quarters in the other three.

Despite not progressing in the United Cup, De Minaur won both of his singles matches and looked really good in doing so. After ending 2024 well and building his fitness back up after some injury concerns, he comes into the new season in good form and shape.

It is hard to see anything other than a De Minaur win here and we think he does it in straight sets too.
