BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH PREVIEW: BACK TO LEAGUE ACTION FOLLOWING CUP DEFEAT

Borussia Monchengladbach couldn’t back up their thrilling 3-2 triumph over Heidenheim with victory against Mainz, but a 1-1 draw on the road wasn’t a bad result from their perspective. However, they were knocked out of the German Cup in midweek, losing away at Eintracht Frankfurt by two goals to one.

Despite fielding a strong team, Gladbach conceded at a terrible period, deep into first stoppage time. Whilst they responded well with an equaliser soon after the restart, Frankfurt won it with 20 minutes to go.

WERDER BREMEN PREVIEW: DRAMATIC COMEBACK EARNS POINT AGAINST CHAMPIONS

Werder Bremen will have been delighted with how they fought back twice against Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen in the last round of Bundesliga fixtures. Most expected Werder to fall short after their first equaliser was cancelled out soon after by a second Leverkusen goal. But they fought back again and were rewarded in the 90th minute by Romano Schmid’s leveller.

Since then, Werder have made it through to the third round of the DFB-Pokal following a battling 0-1 victory away at Paderborn, who forced 18 shots against their opponents but ultimately couldn’t find the net.

BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH TEAM NEWS: HAMSTRING PROBLEM PLAGUING ELVEDI

Swiss international Nico Elvedi could miss this one with a hamstring injury which is troubling him. Goalkeeper Jonas Omlin remains out, whilst Borges Sanches, Netz and Olschowsky are all still injured.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Nicolas; Lainer, Friedrich, Itakura, Scally; Reitz, Weigl; Honorat, Plea, Hack; Kleindienst

UNAVAILABLE: Borges Sanches (Injured), Netz (Injured), Olschowsky (Injured), Omlin (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Elvedi (Injured)

WERDER BREMEN TEAM NEWS: FRONT THREE LIKELY TO REMAIN IN PLAY

Expect Ole Werner to stick with a three-pronged attack rather than playing the extra central midfielder. That would mean Weiser and Schmid either side of Marvin Ducksch. A muscle injury rules out Niklas Stark.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-3): Zetterer; Malatini, Friedl, Jung; Agu, Bittencourt, Lynen, Kohn; Weiser, Ducksch, Schmid

UNAVAILABLE: Stark (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Alvero (Injured), Grull (Injured), Stage (Injured)

BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH VS WERDER BREMEN PREDICTION

With only two points currently separating these two mid-table sides and inconsistency having been an issue across each of their respective seasons, this contest is hard to predict between Borussia Monchengladbach and Werder Bremen. However, when considering that the pair will see this game as very much winnable and there for the taking, goals may well be on the menu as Gladbach and Werder both deploy largely attacking playstyles. With that in mind, consider backing over 2.5 goals to be scored across 90 minutes.

BORUSSIA MONCHENGLADBACH VS WERDER BREMEN TIP: OVER 2.5 GOALS
