Borussia Dortmund Preview: Desperate Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund reached the final of the UEFA Champions League last season, despite average performances in the Bundesliga seeing them finish outside of the top four. They have regressed even further domestically but have still made it deep into Europe.

Their deep run into Europe, though, looks all but over after their 4-0 annihilation at the hands of Barcelona in Catalonia last week with Raphinha opening the scoring for the Catalans before a Robert Lewandowski brace and Lamine Yamal toe poke sealed the hammering for Barca.

Barcelona Preview: Brilliant Blaugrana

Since then, Hansi Flick has heavily rotated his Bluagrana eleven but they still managed to squeeze themselves over the line for three points in the Community of Madrid at the weekend thanks to a 1-0 win over Leganes at Butarque via a Jorge Saenz own goal.

The Catalans have been excellent throughout this campaign, despite something of a mini blip through the early winter, but they have since returned to form and have a brilliant opportunity to win the treble for the third time in 16 years this season.

Borussia Dortmund Team News: Couple of injuries

Borussia Dortmund changed their system to a back three at the weekend, perhaps in preparation for this week. However, with Dortmund chasing the match from the outset, it is unlikely they play a system that leaves them with too many players sitting back and a 4-2-3-1 remains likely.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Kobel; Ryerson, Can, Anton, Bensebaini; Nmecha, Chukwuemeka; Bynoe-Gittens, Brandt, Adeyemi; Guirassy

Unavailable: Schlotterbeck (Injured), Sabitzer (Injured), Oztrzinski (Out of favour), Mane (Injured)

Questionable: Can (Injured)

Barcelona Team News: Balde out

Barcelona have one fresh injury concern to deal with as they make the trip to the Westfalenstadion as Gerard Martin is expected to come in for the injured Alex Balde, who is dealing with a thigh issue. The likes of Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Marc Bernal, Marc Casado and Dani Olmo also all remain sidelined.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Szczesny; Kounde, Cubarsi, Martinez, Martin; De Jong, Pedri; Yamal, Lopez, Raphinha; Lewandowski

Unavailable: Ter Stegen (Injured), Balde (Injured), Bernal (Injured), Casado (Injured), Olmo (Injured)

Questionable:

Borussia Dortmund vs Barcelona Prediction

Borussia Dortmund currently sit outside of the top seven and the European spots in the Bundesliga, albeit their has been an improvement under Niko Kovac. They most recently shared a 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in Der Klassiker at the weekend. Barcelona have scored 146 goals in 49 games across all competitions so far this season. Whilst Barca have already all but wrapped up their semi-final spot, they are unlikely to take their foot off the throat.
