Borna Gojo vs Ben Shelton prediction

Borna Gojo’s injury struggles have left him 411 in the world as he begins the BMW Open. He did manage to get his way through qualifying for a challenger in Napoli to begin his clay court season but then lost to Stan Wawrinka in the first-round.

Since then, he has suffered two successive defeats, at the earliest stage in Morocco and then in qualifying for Monte-Carlo. He will have his work cut out against second seed Ben Shelton but the American knows he must raise his levels after a very poor defeat of his own at the same tournament.

His first-round match saw him take the first set against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina but then win just three games in the next two sets, eventually losing 6-7 6-2 6-1. His serve, usually the major component of Shelton’s game, completely deserted him as the match wore on. He will hope for a much stronger serving performance during this event, starting against Gojo.

The slowness of the courts in Munich don’t particularly suit Shelton’s game but he still should have enough quality to make it through.
