Bologna Preview: Frustrated Bologna
As mentioned, Bologna were torn apart over the summer with manager Thiago Motta leaving for Juventus whilst key men such as Riccardo Calafiori and Joshua Zirkzee departed for Arsenal and Manchester United respectively. The hosts have been difficult to beat in Serie A this season and have improved but their drift has been shown in the UEFA Champions League.
They most recently suffered a defeat to Lille at home in midweek have scored just one goal and collected just one point in Europe’s elite competition and that came on the back of returning from the November international break with a 3-0 loss to an impressive Lazio side at the Stadio Olimpico last weekend.
Venezia Preview: Vicious for Venezia
Following promotion to the top-flight last season, Venezia lost manager Paolo Vanoli to Torino with former Roma boss Eusebio Di Francesco taking charge. The Venetians have badly struggled at the start of this season as they begin the weekend sitting firmly in the bottom three and the relegation places.
Di Francesco has often been viewed as naïve for his tactics and that has been detrimental to the sides he has managed, as shown by Frosinone being relegated last season. Their 1-0 defeat at home to Lecce last week means the visitors have now suffered three successive losses as they sit rock-bottom in Serie A.
Bologna Team News: Several issues
Bologna have been dealing with several issues across the midfield throughout this season and they now have a new absentee as Tommaso Pobega is missing through suspension.
Alongside Pobega, Oussama El Azzouzi and Michel Aebischer remain sidelined due to injury but attacker Dan Ndoye has returned to full fitness ahead of this weekend.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Ravaglia; De Silvestri, Beukema, Jhon Lucumi, Juan Miranda; Freuler, Fabbian; Orsolini, Odgaard, Karlsson; Castro
Unavailable: El Azzouzi (Injured), Pobega (Suspended), Aebischer (Injured)

Venezia Team News: No Zampano
For the vast majority of this season, Venezia have been blessed with very few injury issues but they still haven’t had a very settled eleven and now they do have a fresh concern.
Francois Zampano is unavailable for the next few weeks due to a broken hand after Iceland international midfielder Bjarkar Bjarkarson returned to full fitness recently.
Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Stankovic; Idzes, Svoboda, Sverko; Haps, Duncan, Caviglia, Ellertsson; Oristanio, Busio; Pohjanpalo
Unavailable: Zampano (Injured)

Bologna vs Venezia Prediction
Vincenzo Italiano has himself said his style of football is similar to Thiago Motta but it is probably a little simpler, albeit as attacking and proactive as the Juventus boss. Bologna have lacked goals, though, arguably throughout the last two seasons, but are still looking upwards. Venezia, on the other hand, despite Di Francesco adapting and becoming more controlled, are just a generally poor side and a Bologna win, despite their frustrations, remains the likely outcome for this one.
