The 2023 Cheltenham Festival has reached the halfway point with two days of action to go. The feature race on day 3 is the Stayers’ Hurdle in what looks to be an extremely competitive field with the likes of Blazing Khal, Flooring Porter and Teahupoo all in with a chance of landing the prize.

13:30 Turners Novices’ Chase

Mighty Potter could well go off the odds-on favourite for this race but he looks capable of justifying that. The Gordon Elliott horse is a dual Grade 1 winner over hurdles and has looked superb over fences so far this season. Comes into this having won four races in succession and with plenty of room for further improvement, he can make it a poor start to the day for the bookmakers.

14:50 Ryanair Chase

Shishkin was hugely disappointing in last year’s Queen Mother in what was his first defeat at the Cheltenham Festival having won on his prior two runs in the Supreme and the Arkle. On the back of a wind op and in the tongue tie, he looked back to his best when landing the Ascot Chase when stepped up in trip last month and can build on that effort to land this prize.

16:10 Magners Plate Handicap Chase

So Scottish has been really consistent in his last five races, finishing no lower than second. Landed a hat-trick during that run with back-to-back novice chase successes before he produced a career-best effort on his latest showing. That saw him finish second on handicap debut at Ascot and coming into this on the back of a decent break, he looks like the one to beat.
