Jessica Pegula may well still be suffering from the frustration of being beaten in the round of 16 at Indian Wells earlier this month, after Elina Svitolina defeated her in three sets. It was a tough loss to take when considering that Pegula has played well recently, winning seven of her last ten matches. Of those seven victories, all of them came via straight sets.

Bernarda Pera is a qualifier who has already played three fixtures now in Miami. Whilst she has rhythm and momentum, it could start to take its toll on Pera’s fitness. Both these players represent the USA and will know each other well, which probably suits Pegula slightly more as she’s a better all round player.

Pegula has to be favoured here, specifically to maintain her unbeaten record over Pera on tour and to advance through to the next round. Back her to do so in two sets.
