Benjamin Bonzi vs Marin Cilic prediction

Marin Cilic returns to the Madrid Open with clear signs that his two years of injury hell could finally be behind him.

The former US Open champion has slowly made his way back to regular competition after knee surgery and has caught the eye on the Challenger circuit of late, winning the title in Girona and finishing as runner-up in Madrid. 

The former world number three’s best years may well be behind him, but he is hoping he can eventually end his career on his own terms and is targeting a late flourish in 2025. 

The 36-year-old meets Benjamin Bonzi who has yet to win on the dirt this year and has fallen outside the top 60 with a 3-7 tour record so far. 

The Frenchman has a surprisingly poor record on clay overall and lost his only previous clash with Cilic in four sets at Wimbledon in 2021.

The ranking and younger legs may be in Bonzi’s favour, but the Madrid surface will help Cilic if he lands the big first serve and the Croatian is well worth the punt.
