Beatriz Haddad Maia vs Belinda Bencic prediction
Beatriz Haddad Maia finally ended her nine-match winless run on the tour in the second-round with a three-set win over Bernarda Pera. The Brazilian made a poor start but roared back to win 2-6 6-3 6-1. This win should give Haddad Maia a much-needed confidence boost, but she has a tough match next up against Belinda Bencic.
Bencic picked up a second consecutive win on clay with hard-fought straight sets win over seed Clara Tauson. The Swiss broke at the end of each set to win 7-5 7-5 and set up a clash with Haddad Maia.
Bencic has had the upper hand in the past over Haddad Maia though this will be the first match between the pair that is contested on clay. The Swiss won their first match at the Sydney Classic over three years ago, but Haddad Maia then won their next match later that year in Toronto. Their last encounter was two years ago in Dubai, with Bencic easily winning 6-2 6-3.
Despite Haddad Maia winning her first game in months, she still struggled at times against Pera and Bencic’s precise and all-court playing style should see her through in straight sets.
