Bayern Munich Preview: Victim of Italian job

Bayern Munich were victims of Inter Milan’s defensive doggedness and their own wastefulness in front of goal as they fell to a 1-2 defeat in the first-leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash. But before they can turn their attentions to the second-leg, Vincent Kompany and his side have a huge domestic commitment to honour.

Top of the Bundesliga, Bayern sit six points above Bayer Leverkusen, but the gap could be two points by the team the Rekordmeister kick off here, so the pressure is on Kompany’s men not to slip up in Der Klassiker.

Borussia Dortmund Preview: On the back of Barca beating

Like Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund were also losers in their Champions League quarter-final first-leg, but unlike Bayern, Niko Kovac’s side are almost certainly out of contention ahead of the second-leg after having been thrashed by four goals to nil at the hands of Barcelona.

Now Dortmund focus on one of their biggest rivals as they look to put together a late run of wins that could see them secure a place in Europe next season, although reaching the Champions League looks a tall order.

Bayern Munich Team News: Balance between rotation and strength

Kompany needs to pick a team strong enough to win, but also keep players fresh for their all-important Champions League quarter-final second-leg. Therefore, we may see the likes of Serge Gnabry and Thomas Muller starting here.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Urbig; Boey, Kim, Dier, Stanisic; Palhinha, Kimmich; Olise, Muller, Gnabry; Kane

Unavailable: Buchmann (Injured), Davies (Injured), Ito (Injured), Musiala (Injured), Neuer (Injured), Upamecano (Injured)

Questionable: Coman (Injured), Pavlovic (Injured)

Borussia Dortmund Team News: Schlotterback season-ender

Nico Schlotterbeck won't feature again in this campaign for Dortmund, who are also without midfielder Marcel Sabitzer for this one.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Kobel; Anton, Can, Bensebaini; Ryerson, Chukwuemeka, Gross, Brandt, Gittens; Guirassy, Adeyemi

Unavailable: Mane (Injured), Sabitzer (Injured), Schlotterbeck (Injured)

Bayern Munich vs Borussia Dortmund Prediction

This fixture is normally an entertaining one and the same is expected this time around with both teams needing three points for different reasons. Bayern Munich should be able to capitalise on facing a Borussia Dortmund backline that doesn’t look the strongest on paper, especially on the back of having shipped four goals. With home advantage also in Bayern’s favour, as is their superior squad depth, it’s well worth backing Kompany’s side to win via the safety of the draw no bet market.
