A hard-fought 0-1 victory away at Heidenheim kept Bayer Leverkusen within distance of Bayern Munich, but with games running out, six points is still a significant gap to overcome, particularly with an inferior goal difference. But with three league wins on the spin, Leverkusen aren’t giving up without a fight.
However, their shock 3-1 defeat at the hands of Arminia Bielefeld in the DFB-Pokal semi-final no doubt still stings the reigning domestic double winners, who now are likely to end the campaign without a trophy, not including the DFL-Supercup at the start of the season.
Union Berlin Preview: Optimism following form upturn
Union Berlin travel to Leverkusen with momentum and confidence aplenty after having taken ten points from the last 12 available to them in the Bundesliga. Those games have seen them take points from some very strong sides as well. Victories away at Eintracht Frankfurt and Freiburg were complemented by a 1-1 draw at home to Bayern Munich.

But Leverkusen have been in good league form, scoring eight goals across their last three in the Bundesliga and should eventually overwhelm the Union backline.
