Auxerre Preview: Overachieving Auxerre

With Christophe Pelissier at the helm, Auxerre have massively overperformed at the start of this season after a slow-ish start to the campaign. They begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the top-half of the table as they try and stay in touch with the top six or seven and potential UEFA competition qualification.

The home team do, though, come into this one on the back of a 2-0 defeat to Toulouse at Stadium de Toulouse in their most recent outing last weekend thanks to goals from Josh King and Vincent Sierro. That loss ended a three-match winning streak for the hosts as they remain in the top-half.

PSG Preview: Pressure on Luis Enrique

Luis Enrique signed a new deal with Paris Saint-Germain about a month and a half ago as he tries to evolve the style and culture at Parc des Princes but the French champions are in a perilous position in the UEFA Champions League as they look set to cruise to another league title.

They were frustratingly held to a 1-1 draw at home to struggling Nantes in the capital city last weekend with Achraf Hakimi’s early strike being cancelled out by Matthis Abline in the 38th minute. PSG have now won ten and drawn three of their opening 13 Ligue 1 matches as they begin the weekend sitting six points clear at the top-of-the-table.

Auxerre Team News: No fresh concerns

There are no fresh injury concerns for Auxerre this weekend so the hosts will be able to name an unchanged eleven as they take on PSG in Burgundy in this one.

They do still have a couple of pre-existing absentees for this one with defender Ange Loic N’Gatta sidelined alongside defensive midfielder Ousoumane Camara.

Predicted XI (5-4-1): Leon; Hoever, Diomande, Jubal, Akpa, Mensah; Perrin, Raveloson, Owusu, Traore; Sinayoko

Unavailable: N’Gatta (Injured), Camara (Injured)

PSG Team News: Pretty much fully fit

The likes of Presnel Kimpembe and Goncalo Ramos have been missing throughout this season but both have returned to the first-team ahead of the winter schedule.

They remain without youngster Senny Mayulu due to a calf injury but, aside from that, Luis Enrique is blessed with what appears to be a fully fit and available squad.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Donnarumma; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Willian Pacho, Mendes; Neves, Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz; Lee, Ramos, Barcola

Unavailable: Mayulu (Injured)

Questionable:

Auxerre vs PSG Prediction

Auxerre have shown an ability to punch above their weight this season, as shown best by a defeat of Olympique de Marseille at Stade Velodrome last month. They face a PSG side that may well be sitting comfortably at the top but the Parisiens have plenty of issues to have to deal with as a result of their European form and Luis Enrique’s combustibility. PSG should win but Auxerre will fancy their chances of least hurting their opposition.
