Augsburg Preview: European dream still on

Augsburg’s unbeaten run has made European football a genuine possibility for Jess Thorup’s side next season if they can maintain their recent momentum into the home stretch of the campaign. The hosts currently sit eighth-place in the table and have history of causing upsets on their own ground, so Bayern will need to be on their guard.

The last time that Augsburg tasted defeat was back in the DFB-Pokal quarter-final, they’ve since not lost in their last seven games. Following one-goal victories against Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg, they are coming off the back of a 1-1 draw away at Hoffenheim.

Bayern Munich Preview: Getting closer

Bayern Munich are getting closer to regaining the Bundesliga title that they lost last season to Bayer Leverkusen. With only seven league games remaining and a current six-point lead over the champions (seven if you count their vastly superior goal difference), things are looking rosy for the Rekordmeister.

But boss Vincent Kompany won’t want his men to take their foot off the pedal and this represents a substantial test against a more than capable opponent. Focus must be high, especially with a Champions League quarter-final first leg awaiting them just a few days later.

Augsburg Team News: Essende over Tietz?

Samuel Essende could get the nod up top ahead of Phillip Tietz. Winger Yusuf Kabadayi misses out due to a knee problem, whilst Oxford could be in line for a long-awaited return.

Unavailable: Kabadayi (Injured)

Questionable: Oxford (Fitness)

Bayern Munich Team News: Injury list mounting

Kompany is likely to be without several players for their trip to Augsburg through injury, whilst midfielder Aleksandar Pavlovic is ill. Leon Goretzka and Manuel Neuer are likely to join the confirmed list of absentees.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Urbig; Laimer, Dier, Kim, Guerreiro; Kimmich, Palhinha; Olise, Muller, Gnabry; Kane

Unavailable: Buchmann (Injured), Coman (Injured), Davies (Injured), Ito (Injured), Pavlovic (Ill), Upamecano (Injured)

Augsburg vs Bayern Munich Prediction

If Bayern Munich can come away from this with three points, then it’s difficult to see them slipping up in the title race. Augsburg on the road is a tough fixture but this Bayern team are made of tough stuff and having an international break has probably worked in their favour, giving them time to focus on the run in.

Augsburg won’t go down quietly and a low-scoring encounter has to be favoured, as has been the case in each of Augsburg’s last three matches. With that in mind, the smart play would be to back under 3.5 goals being scored.

Augsburg vs Bayern Munich Tip: Under 3.5 goals
