Atletico Madrid Preview: Evolution of Cholismo

Diego Simeone has been heavily criticised throughout this season for not effectively developing and evolving the ‘Cholismo’ style of Atletico Madrid but Los Rojiblancos appear to have turned a corner in the last month or so as they even break into La Liga’s title race.

Their most recent outing domestically saw them overcome Sevilla in a thrilling clash at the Metropolitano last weekend. In a game in which they were 3-1 down mid-way through the second-half, Atleti managed to win 4-3 with a last gasp Antoine Griezmann winner.

Getafe Preview: Hostility of Jose Bordalas

The man that has perhaps embodied the ‘Cholismo’ style of aggression and hostility even better than Diego Simeone in recent times would be Getafe boss Jose Bordalas who, in his second stint in charge of the club, has Getafe once again punching above their weight.

With a small and limited squad, they sit outside of the bottom three and the relegation places and come into this one on the back of a slender 1-0 defeat of fellow strugglers Espanyol at the Coliseum last weekend thanks to an 83rd minute winner from Real Madrid loanee Alvaro.

Atletico Madrid Team News: Rotation is key

Atletico have just one injury absentee for this weekend with long-term injury issue Thomas Lemar remaining unavailable. Atleti have rediscovered a newfound sense of fun and form due to the heavy rotation that Diego Simeone has used so changes are to be expected.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): Oblak; Marcos Llorente, Jose Maria Gimenez, Lenglet, Javi Galan; Giuliano Simeone, De Paul, Pablo Barrios, Gallagher; Sorloth, Alvarez

Unavailable: Lemar (Injured)

Questionable:

Getafe Team News: Mauro Arambarri suspension

With that aforementioned small squad, Getafe could do without any injuries or suspensions but that is not quite the case just yet as Mauro Arambarri is out suspended, whilst both Carles Alena and Borja Mayoral are missing through injury for the visitors.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): David Soria; Jorge Iglesias, Djene, Omar Alderete, Diego Rico; Nyom, Aberdin, Luis Milla, Carles Perez; Uche, Alvaro

Unavailable: Juan Berrocal (Injured), Mauro Arambarri (Suspended), Carles Alena (Injured), Borja Mayoral (Injured)

Questionable:

Atletico Madrid vs Getafe Prediction

Quite remarkably for a Diego Simeone team, Atletico Madrid have scored 30 goals in 16 matches in La Liga, including nine goals in just their last two matches. Getafe will press from the front on the big pitch of the Metropolitano with defensive midfielder Christantus Uche turning himself into a striker this season. This one is unlikely to be as high scoring as recent Atletico matches but a home win is still to be expected.

Atletico Madrid vs Getafe Tip: Atletico Madrid to win & under 3.5 goals
