Atalanta Preview: Frustrated Bergamasci
Atalanta went into Christmas challenging in Serie A, the UEFA Champions League and the Coppa Italia. The Bergamasci have since been knocked out of the latter two competitions and their form in Serie A has also left a lot to be desired in recent months.
The hosts were beaten 1-0 by Fiorentina at the Artemio Franchi last weekend due to a 45th minute strike by Italy international striker Moise Kean. That loss means Atalanta have now managed just five victories in their last 19 matches across all competitions since Christmas.
Lazio Preview: Lazio’s poor form
In the summer, Lazio appointed Hellas Verona’s so-called ‘miracle worker’ Marco Baroni and things began quite well for the capital city club and they do still remain in contention for a top four finish and potential UEFA Champions League qualification.
However, the visitors come into this one on the back of a 1-1 draw with Torino at the Stadio Olimpico last weekend to continue their average form in Serie A whereby they have managed just three victories, against Cagliari, Monza and Milan, in their last nine league games.
Atalanta Team News: Defensive doubts
Atalanta are dealing with a couple of injury doubts in defence this weekend as both Odilon Kossounou and Stefan Posch could be sidelined for the hosts alongside confirmed absentees Giorgio Scalvini and Gianluca Scamacca.
Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Carnesecchi; Djimsiti, Hien, Kolasinac; Bellanova, De Roon, Ederson, Zappacosta; De Ketelaere; Lookman, Retegui
Unavailable: Scalvini (Injured), Scamacca (Injured)
Questionable: Kossounou (Injured), Posch (Injured)
Lazio Team News: Guendouzi suspended
France international midfielder Matteo Guendouzi, formerly of Arsenal and Olympique de Marseille, is now missing through suspension for the visitors, whilst the likes of Patric and Valentin Castellanos remain sidelined due to injury.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Provedel; Hysaj, Gigot, Romagnoli, Marusic; Dele-Bashiru, Rovella; Isaksen, Pedro, Zaccagni; Dia
Unavailable: Patric (Injured), Guendouzi (Suspended), Valentin Castellanos (Injured)
Questionable: Tavares (Injured), Ibrahimovic (Injured)
Atalanta vs Lazio Prediction
As mentioned, Atalanta’s poor form of late is not a short lived thing and has actually blighted the last few months of their campaign with a couple of off-field issues, too, most prominently the dispute between Gian Piero Gasperini and Ademola Lookman. However, they have been able to produce some very impressive performances as they now take on a Lazio side that appear fatigued from their UEFA Europa League run so siding with Atalanta looks the way to for this one, especially in Bergamo.
Atalanta vs Lazio Tip: Double chance – Atalanta to win or draw
